Teixeira Powers Yankees To Sixth Consecutive Victory And The Playoff’s Have Never Been Closer

The Yankees have won their sixth consecutive game tonight. After losing two straight to the Orioles, Yankee manager Joe Girardi called the following game “the biggest game of the year” since then the Yankees have responded by beating the Orioles that day, sweeping Toronto, and taking the first two against the Rays. They have not lost a game half way through this home stand.

This has been as improbable of a playoff run as any other. After selling off top players and being swept by the Tampa Bay Rays. The Yankees playoff picture looked bleak. Never being able to put together a streak this season. The 2016 Yankee team had a season full of ups and downs, and what if’s. It was frustrating as they continued to play with Yankee fans hearts across the globe.

After the sell off something amazing happened. The Yankee youth started to energize a veteran core of Yankee players. The youth was young and naive enough to believe in the playoff hopes, and they have done nothing but succeed since. The Yankees now have pulled within one game of the wild card and with a win tomorrow they would leap frog the loser of the Orioles and Tigers game in the wild card standings. They also gained another game on Toronto and sit just 2 games behind them now.

Bottom line the Yankees just keep winning and they keep gaining ground. Every day a new hero emerges for the Yankees, and it truly seems like the ghosts of Yankee stadium have made their way to the new park now. The Yankees playoff push is real and there is magic happening right now in the Bronx! If you remember before the home stand I said the Yankees needed to go 8-2 to get right in the thick of things. They would need to just go 3-2 to reach that goal, and now is their time to overachieve.

The umpiring crew butchered tonight’s game. After calling two rain delays early in the game that were unnecessary. It cost them when in the 9th inning they had to bring the tarp on for a third time. The two prior rain delays were completely unnecessary and the rain stopped almost simultaneously with the tarp being rolled out both times.

The Yankee offense struck first in the first inning when Rob Refsnyder doubled in Ellsbury to make the game 1-0.

Gary Sanchez would step up to the plate in the bottom of the third and blast a home run to make it 2-0 (video below)

The Yankees would plate another run with Chase Headley batting a wild pitch scored Tex and made the game 3-0.

After completely dominating the Rays through the first three innings Pineda would allow back-to-back solo shots to make the game 3-2. After allowing a third consecutive hit which was a double. Gary Sanchez showed off his bullet arm by gunning out Dickerson with two outs to escape danger. (Video Below)

In the bottom of the 4th the tarp was brought on the field as rain poured down. We all know that rain has been the Yankees kryptonite this season, but after the rain subsided Mark Teixeira stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs and blasted a grand slam (video below) his grandslam would give the Yankees a 7-2 lead and they would never look back.

Dellin Betances would come in for the 9th and as you could only imagine, it started raining hard again, and Betances gave up singles to Keirmaier and Longoria. With one out and runners on the corners they would bring the tarp on for the third time in the game. Play would resume after about an hour long break. Betances would record a strike out, and after allowing a base hit to make the game 7-5 he would get a strike out to win the game.

The Yankee relievers would get the job done and the Yankees won this one by a final of 7-5. The Yankees will put their ace on the mound tomorrow in Masahiro Tanaka to battle Chris Archer.

Today’s Player Of The Game: Mark Teixeira

Tex has had a really rough final season, and with the job that Tyler Austin has done of late his role has been reduced significantly; however, like most great veterans. Tex had another performance left in him by going 2-3 with a double, a grand slam, 4 runs batted in, and 2 walks.

My Take:

The Yankees just keep winning. It’s unbelievable. Every night there is a new hero. Whether it’s a young rookie, or an old veteran. The team is meshing together like no one could have ever imagined. The Yankees are getting key contributions from players that were not to expected to produce for them.

The Yankees are true contenders and they have finally gotten the attention of Major League Baseball as they now pull within one game of the wild card race. There is magic in the Bronx once again, and the ghosts looks like they have once more returned to Yankee Stadium.
