Yankees, Eovaldi Should Look Into Extension

The Yankees will more than likely non-tender Eovaldi at the end of this season. The Yankees and Eovaldi should look into an extension for a minor league deal.

Eovaldi has proven that he is a true talent, and he has some of the best stuff in baseball when he is on; however, now that he has been forced into a second Tommy John surgery. The young right hander’s career looks as though it could be in limbo.

One thing that the Yankees have learned is that you can never have enough pitching. The Yankees have also been wise to try and acquire as much pitching depth as they can. Eovaldi obviously has the talent and the arm to benefit the Yankees.

Now, Eovaldi may be better suited for a bullpen role at this point in his career, but if Eovaldi was willing to sign a minor league contract with an opt out with the Yankees then an extension is possible. This would give Eovaldi a job when he is done rehabbing, and would give the Yankees a chance to still get some work out of Eovaldi.

Eovaldi also had success out of the bullpen. He posted a 2.61ERA as a reliever. His fastball and splitter combo would make him devestating to opponents out of the pen. If he was to make a come back the Yankees could benefit from his new role.

The Yankees are also no stranger to extending pitchers after major surgery. The first that comes to mind is Jon Lieber. Regardless of what ends up coming from this we wish Eovaldi a quick healing process, and hope he comes back strong, and hopefully in pinstripes! Please subscribe to our page and follow us below!
